bre — delete your account
Last updated: 26 September 2026
The short version
You can delete your bre account from inside the app, in two taps, and it is immediate and permanent. There is no waiting period and no support ticket — once it is gone we cannot bring it back. If you want a copy of your account data first, ask support@askbre.app before you delete it.
From the app
- Open bre and tap the round account button in the top-right of the home screen.
- Scroll to the bottom of Settings and tap Delete account.
- Confirm. The app tells you exactly what is about to go before you do.
The deletion runs on our server first. Only when the server confirms does the app clear this device — so if anything fails, your library is still there and the app says so rather than wiping your phone and reporting a success nobody got.
What is deleted
On our servers, immediately and permanently:
- Your account and the identifier your Apple or Google sign-in is mapped to
- Your sign-in email and password hash, if you signed in with email, and the token Apple gave us if you signed in with Apple (we ask Apple to end bre's access first)
- Your plan record and your remaining-hours balance
- Every usage record that names you, and any in-flight reservation against your quota
- Everything bre remembers about you, if you turned memory on
- The record of what you agreed to — the terms, the privacy policy, the AI notice and memory
- The link between your account and our website, which we ask the website to forget
On your device, as part of the same action:
- Your episodes and their transcripts
- Your notes, highlights and bookmarks
- Anything you downloaded for offline listening
- Your listener profile and preferences
Your session ends and you are signed out. A repeat request with the same dead session is answered the same way, so a flaky connection cannot leave you half-deleted.
What is kept, and why
We keep anonymous, aggregate accounting: how many characters of speech and how many dollars of provider time were spent in a given period, with your identity removed and nothing that could re-identify you — no episode identifiers, no provider request identifiers, no user identifier. These are the numbers that stop bre from overspending at its providers, and they are why a deletion does not reset the meter.
Support messages and reports you filed about an episode are kept too, with your account identifier and reply-to email removed, so the problem you told us about outlives the account. Episode audio is stored on Cloudflare R2 in a cache shared by everyone and filed by its content, not under your account, so it is not deleted with it; the least recently played audio is deleted as the cache fills. Server logs, which name accounts but never your topics, age out within 30 days.
We may also keep records we are legally required to keep, such as a payment receipt. Your subscription itself is not ours to cancel — see below.
Cancel your subscription first
Deleting your bre account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play, because those are managed by Apple and Google, not by us. Cancel it before you delete the account, or you will keep being charged for a plan no account is using:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → bre → Cancel Subscription
- Android: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → bre → Cancel
If you cannot get into the app
Write to support@askbre.app from the email address on your bre account and ask us to delete it. We will confirm it is you, delete the account, and write back when it is done — within 30 days, and usually the same week.
