Privacy
Last updated 27 October 2026
bre is made by BRE LLC, a Missouri limited liability company. This page explains what this website collects, why, and how to get rid of it. It covers askbre.app only. The bre app has its own Privacy Policy, which is the one that applies when you use the app (there is also a page on deleting your account).
What we collect when you join the waitlist
Your email address. Your answer to “what’s the first thing you’d want bre to explain to you?” and any interests you tap, if you choose to give them. Your country, taken from a header our host provides. Your browser’s timezone. The address of the page that referred you, and campaign tags if you arrived from a link we shared. The page of this site you signed up on (its address only, never anything after a question mark). A random referral code we make for you, which is the code in your own share link. If you arrived through a friend’s share link, that friend’s code. Which wording of the sign-up line sat next to the form when you joined, which tells us whether you agreed to the welcome emails below, and, for the episode-suggestion box, to an email if your topic becomes an episode. We also note when you signed up, when you confirmed your address, when you ticked the newsletter box and when you unsubscribed.
We do not store your IP address in our database, and we do not collect precise location. Country is as specific as it gets. Your IP address does reach Cloudflare and Google when a page loads (see “Who else sees your data”), and a short code worked out from it is used for abuse limits (see “Counters and abuse limits”).
What we do with it
When you join, we email you once to confirm your address, and once more on the day bre opens. If the sign-up line next to the form named welcome emails (it does now), we may also send up to three short welcome emails after you confirm: one straight away, and two more about 3 and 10 days later. They go only to confirmed addresses, each has a one-click unsubscribe, and anyone who joined under the older wording never gets them. If you sign up again with an address that is on the list and has not unsubscribed, we email that address a link to its settings, at most once a week. We keep a note of which of our emails went to your address, so nobody gets the same one twice. If you tick the box for bre’s newsletter, we also send you the newsletter and the occasional announcement from bre; each one has a one-click unsubscribe, and without the tick you never get them. Apart from those welcome emails, there is no drip campaign. Your answer about what you’d want explained helps us decide which episodes to build first. Country, the page you signed up on and campaign tags tell us, in aggregate, where interest is coming from.
Share links. After you join we give you a link of your own, askbre.app/r/ followed by your random code. We show it on the screen after you sign up, on the page you reach from the confirmation email, and in our welcome and settings emails to you. When a friend joins through your link and confirms their address, we count one friend for your code. The list is ordered by that count, then by who confirmed first, and the email on the day bre opens goes out in that order. Friends are counted once for each inbox, as far as we can tell: extra addresses that lead to the same inbox, such as a +tag or the dots in a Gmail name, add nothing, and you cannot count yourself. A person’s count stops at 25 friends. If an address that is already on the list is entered again, we may add one more random code to that entry (up to ten), so the link shown on screen counts for it; those codes are deleted with the entry. You see only how many friends joined, never who, and a friend is never told whose link they used. Nothing else is kept about who shared with whom. Sharing is optional and nobody is paid for it.
The waitlist and the app
If you create a bre account in the app, the app’s server sends us your email address and your account ID. If the address matches a waitlist entry, we save the account ID with that entry, and the app is told that you were on the waitlist. If it matches nothing, we do not save the account ID. When you delete your app account, the app tells us, and we remove the account ID from the entry.
The waitlist entry is separate from your app account. Deleting your app account does not take you off the waitlist. To leave it, use the unsubscribe link in one of our emails, or ask us (see “Your choices”).
Episode suggestions
The box that asks “What should bre make an episode about?” (on the home page, the topic and learn pages, and askbre.app/suggest) stores the topic you type (up to 140 characters), the page of this site it was on, any campaign tags from the link you arrived on, and the time. It does not store your IP address. To limit how often one connection can use the box, and to count the very same idea from one connection once a day, we keep a short code worked out from your IP address, as for our other forms, and for the second one next to it a short form of the idea’s words; both expire within a day. Links, email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses and abusive words are refused by our code, and topics on sensitive subjects are held until a person has read them. Please never put personal details in a topic.
Your email is optional. If you add it, you are joining the waitlist: everything above about joining applies, we email you to confirm, and, if you agreed to it in the line next to the field, we send you one email if your topic becomes an episode, only after you have confirmed your address. A person marks a topic as made, and the email links to the page of the episode. We tie your suggestion to your sign-up only if the address was new; if it was already on the list, nothing is tied to it and nothing new is sent.
We use suggestions to decide which episodes and pages to make. They are counted and grouped, a topic may be shown on its own in a public vote on bre’s social accounts, and the topic text (never an email address) may be read by an AI model (Anthropic’s Claude) when we choose or write pages about it. A suggestion is deleted 12 months after it was made. A suggestion has no address on it, so to have one deleted sooner, email support@askbre.app and tell us what you wrote (and the address you gave, if the address was new: that is the only case in which a suggestion is tied to a sign-up); the tie is removed when the sign-up is deleted.
Founding spots (a price test)
While it runs, our founding-spot page (askbre.app/reserve) shows each browser one of three prices, chosen at random, so we can learn what people will pay. Your browser keeps which price it was shown, and whether it has been counted, in local storage until you clear it (or for the tab, if local storage is blocked), so you see the same price each time.
We count how many browsers were shown each price, and from which campaign, with no email address. To count a connection only once a day, each count carries the same short code worked out from your IP address that our abuse limits use (see below), and we remove that code after two days.
If you reserve, we add your address to the waitlist straight away, with the same details as when you join: your email address, country, your browser’s timezone, the page that referred you and any campaign tags. With it we store the price you were shown and the time. We email you a link for that price: tapping it keeps that price for you when bre opens and confirms your address for the waitlist, so you also get the launch email described above. If you already kept a founding price, that one stays yours. If the link isn’t tapped and your address is entered on the page again, we may send it again, at most once a week for each price. If you answer the four optional questions about price, we store your answers with your reservation.
The chat on this page
The chat box answers from a list of questions and answers built into this page. What you type into it is not sent anywhere. An earlier version of this box, in use until October 2026, sent each typed question to Anthropic’s Claude API, and we stored it with the country it came from but without a name or email. We keep those to learn what people ask, and delete each one 180 days after it was asked.
The microphone button in the chat box turns your microphone on only when you press it, and only to make the orb move with how loud your voice is. The sound is analysed in your browser. It is not recorded, and it does not leave your browser. Press the button again to turn the microphone off.
Email to us
If you email hello@ or support@askbre.app, Cloudflare Email Routing receives it. A copy goes to a Gmail inbox (Google) that the team reads, and so do the replies a person sends from that inbox. Our support system also stores your message and our reply in our database, so we can help you and so a follow-up makes sense.
An AI assistant (Anthropic’s Claude) answers common questions straight away, without a person reviewing the reply first, and every reply it sends on its own says so. To write a reply, it reads the subject and text of your email, and any earlier emails from you and our replies to them from the last 90 days (up to three conversations). It does not read attachments. Before that, a quick AI check reads the subject and the start of most emails to spot spam and empty mail, which get no reply. Automatic checks hold back any reply that looks wrong, and a person answers those.
Questions about a charge, a refund or cancelling get a fixed reply with the steps for your app store. Messages that look like they are about legal matters, safety, children, privacy or deleting your data are held for a person, and you can always reply and ask for one. For some of these, such as legal, safety or data requests, we also email the team an alert that includes the start of your message. We never ask for passwords, codes or card details by email.
Email to partners@ and sam@
Mail to partners@askbre.app and sam@askbre.app also arrives through Cloudflare Email Routing. An AI (Anthropic’s Claude) reads who it is from, the subject and the start of the message, only to sort it into a folder and rate how important it is. It never writes a reply and does not read attachments. We forward each email to a Gmail inbox (Google) that the team reads, into the folder the AI picked. If the AI rates a message as important, we also email the team a short alert. Someone who writes to partners@ can get one fixed automatic note, at most once a week, to say the message arrived. The AI does not write that note. Mail to any other askbre.app address is forwarded by Cloudflare to the same Gmail inbox and is not read by an AI.
The support form
If you use the form on our support page, we store your email address, the topic and device you choose, and your message, and we email you a link to confirm it’s you. Until you click that link, the message just waits in our database, and our assistant never sees it. After you click, it is handled by the same assistant and the same rules as an email to support@askbre.app. The confirmation email doesn’t repeat your message. We can switch on a Cloudflare Turnstile check on this form, to tell people from bots. It is off today. If it is switched on, Cloudflare receives the check it runs in your browser, and we receive only whether it passed.
Orders from the bre shop
You check out on the bre store at shop.askbre.app, which Printify runs for us. Printify takes your order, payment and address, prints and sends your order, and emails you about it from its own address, under the store’s name.
We also send you emails of our own from hello@askbre.app: one when you order, and one with the tracking link when each parcel ships. To write them, our server asks Printify for your first name, email address, country, what you ordered, the order number and the tracking details. It uses them for that one email and does not store them in our database. So that nobody gets the same email twice, we keep a short code worked out from the order (a shortened hash, not your name or address) for 30 days, and add an anonymous count of order emails sent. These emails are about your order, so they have no unsubscribe link. If you reply, it reaches support@askbre.app like any other email to us.
Counters and abuse limits
To limit abuse, we count how often one connection uses our sign-up, founding-spot, support and episode-suggestion forms, and how often one email address writes to us. We keep each count under a short code (a shortened hash) worked out from your IP address or your email address, never under the address itself. Counts expire by themselves: after an hour for the sign-up and founding-spot forms, within a day for the episode-suggestion box (its counts also hold a short form of the suggested words), within a day for the support form and for email to us, and after a week for the partners@ note.
We also keep a few anonymous counters in our database. When someone signs up (or signs up again), answers the optional second step or saves their email settings, we add a line with the time, what happened and sometimes one small detail: the country, how many interests were picked, or whether the newsletter box was ticked. No email address or name goes with it.
Who else sees your data
Cloudflare hosts the site, the database and the API, and receives our email (Cloudflare Email Routing).
Google serves the fonts on every page, so your browser contacts Google when a page loads, and Google sees your IP address and browser details. Google also runs the Gmail inbox that holds the copies of email described above.
Resend sends our email.
Printify runs the bre store’s checkout, prints and sends shop orders, and gives our server an order’s details for our order emails.
Anthropic (Claude) reads support emails, sorts partners@ and sam@ mail, and, until October 2026, received the questions typed into the chat box.
Cloudflare, Resend and Anthropic handle data on our instructions. We don’t sell data, and we don’t share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
A suggestion from the episode-suggestion box is deleted 12 months after it was made. A sign-up that is never confirmed is deleted 90 days after it was made, with its referral code and the note of which friend’s link it came through. A confirmed sign-up is kept until you ask us to remove it. If you only unsubscribe from a confirmed sign-up, we stop emailing you but keep your entry, marked as unsubscribed, so that we don’t email you again. A support thread (your email and our reply) is deleted two years after its last activity. A support-form message that is never confirmed is deleted about a week after its link expires. A founding-spot reservation is deleted with the sign-up it belongs to, or after 90 days if its link was never tapped. A chat question stored by the earlier version of the chat box is deleted 180 days after it was asked. The code that stops a shop order email going out twice expires by itself 30 days after the email. A clean-up that runs once a day does the deleting.
This covers our database. Copies of email in the Gmail inbox are not part of this clean-up. Our email sender (Resend) and our host (Cloudflare) also keep their own short logs of emails sent and requests made, and clear them on their own schedule. The anonymous counters are not tied to a name or email address, and they have no fixed deletion date.
Your choices
To stop our emails, click the one-click unsubscribe link in any newsletter, launch, welcome, topic or settings email, or email support@askbre.app and ask. To see what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, email support@askbre.app and say so. We answer within 30 days. No account or form required.
If you are in the UK or the European Union: we email you only because you asked (consent, which you can withdraw by unsubscribing), except the shop order emails, which we send to carry out your order (contract); we keep the counters to stop abuse (our legitimate interest); you can ask for a copy or deletion as above, and complain to your data protection authority.
Deleting your bre account in the app does not remove you from the waitlist. To come off it, use the unsubscribe link in one of our emails. If you also want your entry removed, email us and say so.
Cookies
None. This site sets no cookies and loads no advertising or tracking scripts. Your browser keeps one small item: if you arrive from a link with campaign tags (such as utm_source), the tags are held in the browser’s session storage until you close the tab, so a sign-up on another page of this site counts for that link. A friend’s share link works the same way: its code is held in session storage until you close the tab and goes with your address if you sign up. Our sign-up code and the founding-spot page read them. They reach us if you sign up, or when you first open the founding-spot page, where they are counted with the price shown and no email address. The founding-spot page also keeps which of its prices your browser was shown, and whether that visit was counted, in local storage until you clear it. This site keeps nothing else in your browser.
Children
This website is not directed at children under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
